-
- You have posted many times on the modem and software you favour. Perhaps this
- repetition is why the spamming critism.
-
- The idea for this thread is good however and should draw many interested
- parties monitoring for information on these types of modems. These modems all
- promise the goods but it seems many users are not satisfied or are having
- problems getting features to actually work.
-
- I am using the Cardinal MVP288IV and am very satisfied. You mention the
- superior voice quality of the product you favour and imply that 8bit sampling
- is a bonus feature not usually found. Not true. Most current voice/mail
- modems now offer 8bit recording options. This option uses up considerably
- more hard drive space for the improvement in sound quality(voice) over a 4
- bit sample. On a modern phone handset of decent quality, playback is very
- acceptable at 4bit sampling. Certainly far better than any tape based system
- I've heard. Sound quality is relative, but as a musician with average "chops"
- but a decent ear, I am reasonably fussy concerning sound quality.
-
- And being able to fax at 14.4, move data at 28.8, autodistinguish either
- voice/fax or voice/data, support caller ID, flash upgrade firmware, and use
- the bundled, full featured software ( Faxworks ) for under $ 300 CDN, makes
- this modem much more attractive in my opinion. It will even share the port
- with other software apps that use the modem. This includes an Internet dial
- up connection or an autodialer feature found in some PIM type apps. When you
- exit or don't use the modem for a period of time, Faxworks will prompt to ask
- if it can have the modem back. Pick yes or no.
-
- Now I understand that the new speakerphone modem from Cardinal will share
- speakers with the sound card and automatically mute the sound card source if
- the phone is put in speakerphone mode.
-
- I think these types of modem are now maturing to the point of actually
- meeting end users expectations, and suspect this is due to the demand of
- the large and growing SOHO market.
